Currency Trading: Easy as 1-2-3
March 18th, 2010 under Currency Trading, Strategies. [ Comments: 1 ]

My trader friends know that I love trading with technical analysis. But lately I have been interested in trading with pure price action, also called a “naked chart”.

I have learned a new strategy called the 1-2-3 strategy. I use a variance with Fibonacci levels.

How does it work?

To enter a short (sell) trade, you just wait until the price goes down and then goes back up, and then goes back down again.

To enter a long (buy) trade, you wait until the price goes up and then goes back down, and moves back up again.

1. It’s important that Point 3 is lower than Point 1 in a short (sell) trade, or higher than Point 1 in a long (buy) trade.

2. Enter the trade once the price hits Point 2.

3. Using the Fibonacci levels, wait until the price hits the first level then move your stop-loss to that level. You now have a guaranteed profit. If it goes further, when it touches the second level move your stop-loss to that level.

4. You’ll take your profit once the price retraces back to that Fibonacci level.

It’s usually good to put your initial Stop-Loss at Point 3 in case the market whipsaw.

You can see a few examples in the picture below. With that technique, the potential profit would have been $812, by only risking $100 per trade, in about 2 months.

Dropping Sand EA
March 16th, 2010 under Currency Trading, Expert Advisors Testing. [ Comments: none ]

Hi everyone!

After some thorough backtesting and forward testing, with different settings, I have come to realize that my Expert Advisor Sand does not fit my trading style.

So far it has created the biggest profit, but at what cost? For it to function well, the stop-loss needs to be huge and I don’t want to get into Martingale systems.

It will get replaced by a more simple indicator that is less risky, called A1. I will present it in my next update.

I am also currently developing another version of Thunder that might provide higher profit.

Q&A on my trading robots
March 6th, 2010 under Currency Trading, Expert Advisors Testing. [ Comments: none ]

Hi fellow readers!

I have been getting a lot of positive emails (thank you) and emails full of questions as well, so I thought it would be fair to post here since some of the questions are similar.

1. What is an Expert Advisor?

A: I created a section just for that. You can go click on the link at the top called What is Currency Trading (Forex) ?, it should answer all your questions.

2. Some of your expert advisors seem to have similar names to widely available expert advisors. Do you just test free ones?

A: Some expert advisors are indeed based on widely available expert advisors, but I always modify the code to make it reflect my personal settings. The reason being that I am a beginner when it comes to MT4 programming so I have to use EAs that have a similar strategy and modify them to suit my trading style. Some are also coming from my own programming.

3. Will you ever make these expert advisors available for download?

If it is profitable, yes, I might. And my goal is not to make money from people, so I might either set up a managed account or sell it for a minor price (unlike those $1000 EAs that you see online!).

4. What’s your goal? Why are you doing this?

A: My goal is to find the best EA or EAs that will create a constant profit and will make me be able to reach financial freedom, then share it with this community.
4B. What are your conditions for an EA to be able to provide constant income?

It needs to be able to be profitable by at least 100 pips every month ON AVERAGE. I am aware there will be some losses. Losses greater than 2000 pips are not acceptable though. I will remove any EA that makes me lose more than 2000 pips more than 2 times (because the first time it might just be an accident).

5. What are your stop-losses on all your EAs?

Alright, where do I start. Well I’ll just give you an approximation.

ACG: 500 pips
AFG: 100 pips
Dragon: 30-35pips
Thunder: Around 100 pips
Sand: 2000 pips (it has a trailing stop, to make sure it never reaches that)
FxUltra: 30-35 pips
H4: Trailing stop (varies on the trade), usually around 100 pips with trailing stop of 50.
